Just like humans, horses require the rapid eye movement stage of sleep for dreaming, restoration, and forming long-term memories. That is why a comfortable resting place to lie down is so incredibly important to ensure the best possible recovery and quality rest - for healthy and happy horses.
How to Set Up SoftBed Comfort in Your Stall
We recommend one 6' x 8' Stall Mattress per 12’ x 12’ or 12’ x 14’ stall. For larger stalls, two SoftBeds can be used. Simply place the SoftBed on top of your leveled existing stall flooring. A small amount of shavings should be added around the SoftBed to provide a urinating spot for your horse, which will help the middle of the stall stay dry and clean.
Unlike other therapeutic stall flooring options, SoftBed Comfort does not require any permanent installation and can easily be moved to a different location. This makes the SoftBed the ideal solution for owners who board and would like to provide comfort to their horse, all while having the flexibility to move their horses' mattress to a different stall if needed.
Up to 75% Less Shavings
The soft, flexible surface of a SoftBed Comfort mat provides your horse with a durable and comfortable bed, equivalent to 4-6 inches of shavings. It greatly improves your horse’s well-being and reduces the amount of bedding material needed, making the mucking out of your stalls easier and less time-consuming. Less shavings also means cost savings on waste removal. We generally recommend placing some shavings around the SoftBed only. But, if you choose to cover the SoftBed with a thin layer of shavings as well (which can be helpful when introducing your horse to the SoftBed for the first time), any wet shavings on top of the SoftBed can be easily removed. Unlike regular stall mats, which take on the urine’s ammonia smell, the rubber material of the SoftBed does not absorb any bacteria from urine and will remain clean and odorless. SoftBed Comfort will also help reduce urine pits and holes in your bedding, while improving air quality.

The thick and cushy foam core of the SoftBed Comfort stall mat holds its shape even after years of use - it will not become compacted or lumpy over time, as can happen with systems utilizing loose material for cushioning. The foam is protected by thick rubber layers on the top and on the bottom. The rubber features a netting inlay for additional strength and tear resistance and is sealed using a vulcanizing process, preventing moisture from reaching the foam core. The top surface of the SoftBed features a subtle hammered texture, which enhances the non-slip properties of the mat.

No, the SoftBed has a hammer textured, non-slip rubber surface which, while smooth on fetlocks and knees, provides traction for the hooves. Hooves sink into the mat's foam core, providing extra traction as well.
No, the SoftBed is very durable and is not easily punctured by regular horse shoes or manure forks. However, studs are not recommended to be used on the SoftBed as this may damage the top rubber layer.
Yes, the SoftBed can easily be used in a partial shelter, outdoors, or wherever you would like to offer a comfortable and soft surface for your horse. The foam core is completely closed in between non-permeable rubber layers, so moisture and rain will not seep into the mattress.
